About

about.jpgI was born in San Francisco, California, but moved to Houston, Texas when I was just 2 years old. My dad took me fishing at an early age, catching bluegills, catfish and "anything that swam". I fell in love with fishing and being outdoors. It wasn't until I married my husband Glenn, that I started bass fishing. We went bass fishing nearly every weekend and just couldn't get enough of it! When I learned of the Bassn'Gal Tour, I immediately joined up and started competing. However, after 3 years I decided to devote more time to my family and son Scott, then 7 years old, so I put my professional career on hold.

During the next 10 years, I took up saltwater fishing and went after redfish and speckled trout in the Gulf Coast area. I also enjoyed going offshore, fishing for king mackerel and ling and "anything that swam" in the waters offshore. Also during this time, Glenn taught me to shoot, and I enthusiastically took up deer and waterfowl hunting. This became a family affair with one adventure after another and is still one of my favorite hobbies today!

In 1989, after my son graduated from high school, I returned to the tournament scene, competing on the Bassn'Gal Tour, the Women's Bass Fishing Association circuit, the Women's Bassmaster Tour, the BASS Opens, the FLW and Stren Series events. I also started my fishing guide service on Fayette County Lake, just outside of Houston. There, I honed my bass fishing skills and shared them with my clients, teaching men and women, the latest bass catching techniques. I love to teach and watch others catch fish, so taking novice anglers and turning them into accomplished baitcasters, was a real joy.

My career really took a turn in 2001, when I won the Women's Bass Fishing Association's Classic World Championship on the Red River. Then in April of 2002, I won a national tournament with the WBFA on Toledo Bend Lake with 6 bass that weighed 30.13 and took big bass honors as well, with a 10.01 bass! Later that year, I was able to defend my Championship title on Lake Eufaula in Alabama, with back-to-back victories. In 2003, I nearly had 3-peat Championships, finishing 2nd on the Red River in Louisiana.

In February of 2008, I won the 2007 Women's Bassmaster Tour Championship on Lake Keowee in South Carolina and mostly recently, the 2009 Women's Bassmaster Tour Championship on Cypress Black Bayou Lake in Louisiana.

After the first Women's Bassmaster Tour Championship, I received a surprise call from the Whitehouse telling me President George Bush wanted to recognize me for my achievement with a visit to the Oval Office! Talk about an honor! This has certainly been the highlight of my angling career, but my most memorable and rewarding experience, would have to be my trip to Germany with fellow anglers, Gary Yamamoto and Roland Martin, to visit deploying and returning military service men and women. Wow! That was so emotional! It was one of my proudest experiences, to be able to thank these soldiers, who lay their life on the line for our freedom.

In 2005, Glenn and I moved to Many, Louisiana and built our home on Toledo Bend Lake. I guide on the lake when not on tour or doing promotional engagements for my sponsors. As a member of the Toledo Bend Lake Association, I was chosen to be the 2008 Bass Unlimited Poster Artist, creating an original acrylic painting and 250 limited edition posters, which have all been sold. I presented a framed poster, along with my signature series titanium American Rodsmiths rod, a Quantum Tour Edition reel and some hand-selected Gary Yamamoto baits to President Bush when I made my trip to the Whitehouse.

My fishing career has included several TV appearances with Keith Warren on "Texas Angler", Thom Dickerson on "Channel 13 Outdoors" - KTRK Houston and most recently with Roland Martin on the "Fishing with Roland Martin" Show. I have been a guest on several radio shows such as "610 Sports Radio Houston, "Fox Sports Houston with Doug Pike" and "Field and Stream Radio". I have also been on the cover of "The Inside Line", "Texas Fish & Game" and the "Lakecaster" Magazine with features in "Bassmaster" and "Bass Times" Magazine.

My most recent accolade in 2010 would be my induction into "The Legends of the Outdoors" National Hall of Fame. This is truly an honor for me to be recognized along side other more famous celebrities in our sport.

Being a product spokesperson for my sponsors is just one of my responsibilities. More importantly I feel, is being a role model for young girls and boys. They are the future of our sport and it is with pride and passion, that I help elevate this sport and pass it on to the next generation. I definitely feel that programs such as "Get Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs" and "Take Me Fishing" can make a huge difference in a child's life. As I continue on my career path, hopefully I'll get to meet you and others, who enjoy the same passions as I do and that I influence people's lives in a positive way.
